Elizabeth Gorringe is a potter based in Oxfordshire in the UK. She has a degree in Art History and Media Art. Before becoming a potter she worked for The British Film Institute at The National Film and Television Archive, working on many conservation projects within the Film Stills and Film Acquisition departments.
Her current work focuses on minimalist aesthetics within everyday functional objects and these objects subtle interplay. Her vessels hold a simplicity of line and form, distilled to their vital components so that the forms remain simple, restrained and uncluttered.
She aims for her pots to have a purity but purpose and for them to hold some form of tangible lyricism within them. Strong throwing lines remain on the interiors of the forms, like rhythmic inflections, speaking of the making process.
She works entirely in porcelain, adoring it for its extraordinary whiteness and translucency.
