Kirsty Adam’s work is both functional and holds aesthetic meaning, retaining the spontaneity and delicacy intrinsic to making on the potters’ wheel. A Japanese comb tool is used to create and enhance the throwing lines. Her Icelandic collection is the culmination of a research trip to Iceland to express the ‘otherworldliness’ of the landscape.
Kirsty is an award-winning ceramicist currently working from her studio in Newcastle upon Tyne. She originally trained at Brighton Art College and then on the potters’ wheel in Japan. She has developed a personal approach to throwing on the wheel using porcelain clay, to produce unique pieces for the home.

About the event
'Trace' is an exhibition curated by Thrown featuring 12 artists and makers. Aiming to explore the marks we make, physical imprints and expressive gestures will add to thoughts about heritage and influence in a a carefully curated collection of works.
Visit the exhibition as the sun sets, have a drink and enjoy a discussion between artists Ula Saniawa (Unit89) and Tim Martin, facilitated by the exhibition curator Claire Pearce.
Titled 'The space that surrounds', the discussion will bring both artists together through their architectural backgrounds and discuss the 2D becoming the 3D, creating work for specific spaces and abstraction in clay.Â
The discussion will also open to your questions.
