LIGHT & FIRE

15th April - 30th May 2021

There’s something magical about these works. These are surfaces which go beyond their physical forms and appear to somehow contain, or perhaps radiate, elements, forces and, throughout each artist’s work, pure obsession.

Three collections of light and three collections of fire have been bought together in a bid to spark contrasts but also to show in full force ceramics unique ability to harness the untouchable.

We are honoured to be presenting a brand new collection of exceptional porcelain work by the South African studio The Light Forge, founded by Katherine Glenday's life-long fascination for the transluency of porcelain and joined later by Alistair Blair, learning from her teachings. Their mastery of light, presented by their own individual collections as well as their collaborative work, is met with dense dramatic surfaces of fire - scorched saggar-fired vessels by Victoria Meadows, the intense crackled surfaces of Peter Sparrey's raku-firing and Nina Salsotto Cassina's volcanic series capturing the fire and heat that made both the lava rocks and the vessels themselves.
