Kirsty Adam’s work is both functional and holds aesthetic meaning, retaining the spontaneity and delicacy intrinsic to making on the potters’ wheel. A Japanese comb tool is used to create and enhance the throwing lines. Her Icelandic collection is the culmination of a research trip to Iceland to express the ‘otherworldliness’ of the landscape.
Kirsty is an award-winning ceramicist currently working from her studio in Newcastle upon Tyne. She originally trained at Brighton Art College and then on the potters’ wheel in Japan. She has developed a personal approach to throwing on the wheel using porcelain clay, to produce unique pieces for the home.

'The mentos series is all about a shape which is very dear to me. A grounded ball, flattened by gravity. Enclosed and sealed with a cork stopper, hiding an unknown content inside. In fact, these are designed as paperweights to keep on your desk with inside some drops of perfumed essential oils to relieve stress while working.'
'I was born in the Netherlands. I left for Hong Kong for my work as a fashion designer. I left Hong Kong for Italy with a new hobby: Pottery.
I live in Italy now where I left fashion for the world of ceramics. My most recent public appearance was during the Milan Design Week (September 2021) at the 1000 Vases Show at Superstudio Pi, including a five-page publication in the 1000 Vases book.'
