Dark Oak

Writer's picture: ThrownThrown

Simone Mantegazza's 'Dark Oak' series, named after the ebonized dark oak flower of each piece, uses contrasts in natural and crafted finishes in wood to reflect the life cycle of a plant.

Steam-bent linden curves and twists with energetic growth leading to the darkened oak flower, the striking pattern of its wood grain rippling out to a ragged outline, signs of both life and decay suspended in its form.

See three pieces from Simone's 'Dark Oak' series, including videos showing the work in 360 view, in our online Winter Exhibition until 29th January.
