About Chris West
Chris West creates wheel thrown stoneware that embraces elegant shapes and organic altered forms.
His altered forms are inspired by local landscapes. They begin as recognisable objects but are then altered in shape and embellished with additional materials, such as sand, and other sculptural clay elements to create ceramic objects with an organic quality.
 
Chris designs and makes a range of contemporary ceramics. Each piece is wheel-thrown, glazed and fired in his home studio near Derby. He also makes a range of contemporary tableware alongside other functional and decorative ceramics.
 
Chris has participated in ceramics fairs such as Potfest, many regional craft markets and has exhibited pieces in galleries across the region. He has been practising the craft of pottery for a number of years and has over 30 years of teaching experience which he uses to help people to learn the craft of pottery themselves.
