About Julia Clarke
Working at the confluence of sculpture and craft, London-based artist Julia Clarke explores the poetic dialogue between materiality, abstraction and place. Her practice draws upon elemental materials including clay, willow and textiles, weaving these into a layered vocabulary that bridges ceramics, and mixed media. The resulting works inhabit a space between object and environment, capturing moments of transition and transformation.
Inspired by woodlands, weather patterns, urban forms and the spaces in-between, Clarke invites viewers to a playful and reflective sensory experience. Bold colour, organic forms and intuitive processes allow her to construct pieces that appear to have once been embedded in their surroundings, intending to spark curiosity and connection.
Julia studied Sculpture at Central Saint Martins and has exhibited at venues including Kew Gardens, Ruup and Form Gallery, VJB Arts, Everyone’s Art Friend and Fresh Art Fair. She has participated in community-led initiatives such as Artists Walk and Crouch End Open Studios and recently completed a commission for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hanover Square. Her latest venture is to create site specific outdoor sculpture for THEMOUTDOORS.
