About the Artist

"This series of bottles continues my exploration of the vessel as a sculptural form. It draws additional inspiration from a new hobby I’ve taken up with my three-year-old son: mudlarking. After relocating to an old market town in Northumberland, I discovered that large sections of the surrounding woodland had been used as Victorian and Edwardian dumps. During our walks along the river and through the woods, we would often come across shards, and occasionally whole glass and ceramic bottles, half-buried in the mud. Many of these bottles were embossed with the names of brewers or manufacturers."

"One of my personal favorites, which we frequently find, is the Codd bottle. This uniquely shaped glass bottle, designed to hold carbonated drinks, features a marble in its neck to prevent the drink from going flat. The distinct form and history of the Codd bottle have significantly influenced the aesthetics of this latest body of work."
