About Anna Simson
Anna came to ceramics through part-time classes and workshops over 20 years ago, formalising her passion with a Masters from Bath Spa University in 2018. Her love of nature comes from her childhood in Africa and the Mediterranean and her extensive travels in later life. She has a studio nestled in the heart of the creative Stroud Valleys where she lives with her husband, daughter and dogs.
Anna makes both functional and sculptural ceramics in stoneware and porcelain clays using a variety of techniques including throwing, hand building and pit firing. Getting hands dirty in the earth and a deep relationship with clay; its malleability and the visible marks are important to the textures and imprints she makes. Anna’s interpretations of Gaia’s flora and fauna are inspired by the little things in nature that ultimately affect us all and yet we often do not fully understand their impact; lichens, fungi, pangolins, creatures of the deep oceans.

Kirsty Adam’s work is both functional and holds aesthetic meaning, retaining the spontaneity and delicacy intrinsic to making on the potters’ wheel. A Japanese comb tool is used to create and enhance the throwing lines. Her Icelandic collection is the culmination of a research trip to Iceland to express the ‘otherworldliness’ of the landscape.
Kirsty is an award-winning ceramicist currently working from her studio in Newcastle upon Tyne. She originally trained at Brighton Art College and then on the potters’ wheel in Japan. She has developed a personal approach to throwing on the wheel using porcelain clay, to produce unique pieces for the home.
