About the Artists
FLOW Collection dynamically expresses the movement of colours within a variety of forms. Inspired by observing the everyday world, I have tried to develop imagery exploring the themes of “synthesis”, “movement” and “harmony”. The world we live in is enormously diverse, consisting of people of different races and backgrounds with different characteristics, each living in state of conflict and harmony. This collection aims to capture this diversity through manipulation of clay and forms of colour. In the texture of the surfaces, following the undulating, natural trajectory of the blue and white dots, lines, and spaces, we can perceive the fluid, arcing gesture and movement of forms around the exteriors of the vessels, expressing the beauty, diversity and harmony of the boundless flow of colour.
The process of making my vessels involves decorating the surface with an unexpected combination of forms that produce various patterns of colour. Through coincidence, dots, lines, and spaces are created and connected in a single space the vessel.

Kirsty Adam’s work is both functional and holds aesthetic meaning, retaining the spontaneity and delicacy intrinsic to making on the potters’ wheel. A Japanese comb tool is used to create and enhance the throwing lines. Her Icelandic collection is the culmination of a research trip to Iceland to express the ‘otherworldliness’ of the landscape.
Kirsty is an award-winning ceramicist currently working from her studio in Newcastle upon Tyne. She originally trained at Brighton Art College and then on the potters’ wheel in Japan. She has developed a personal approach to throwing on the wheel using porcelain clay, to produce unique pieces for the home.
