About Olga Siruk
"My work explores the evolving relationship between cultural heritage and contemporary identity. As a recent immigrant from Russia, I am drawn to traditional folk crafts as cultural artifacts shaped by political and historical trauma. This tension between belonging and distance forms the core of my practice. Inspired by Russian avant-garde artists and the stage designs of the Ballets Russes, I create hand-built ceramic forms with graphic paper-resist surfaces. Simple biomorphic shapes become canvases for layered interactions of pattern, rhythm, and memory. Many of the motifs I use come from fairy tales, mythology, and rural rituals that were an intimate part of my upbringing."
Olga Siruk (b. 1990, Russia) is a London-based ceramic artist exploring the transformation of cultural heritage through contemporary sculptural form. Originally trained in architecture and interior design, she now works primarily with hand-built stoneware, merging biomorphic shapes with intricate paper-resist surface decoration inspired by Russian folk motifs and early 20th-century avant-garde stage design.
Her work has been shown in the UK and internationally, including the British Ceramics Biennial (Fresh) and the CERCO International Ceramic Prize in Spain, where she was a finalist in 2025. She is the winner of the London Potters Annual Makers Award (Established Maker category).
