About Ayala Tzur
"The fragility of the material touches me, moves me.
When I reached the technique with which I'm working, there was a moment when I felt that I found a treasure…
Something in the unorganized line, in the gentleness, evokes wonder inside me. Old texts seem like kinds of lines to me, exist and but don't exist, meaningful and unclear, there's something exciting in them."
Ayala embroiders and draws lines on porcelain with the look of textile, combines traditional techniques to a nowadays hybrid creature, this is a personal interpretation to the scrolls, calligraphy and old texts.
A complex processing of the porcelain in a procedure which combines "stamping" on textile grants the clay its identity. The outcome looks like thin scrolls in which the clay accepts the texture of the cloth as a mirror material. The combination of the materials: the embroidery threads and the porcelain, creates a hybrid which moves on the boundary between ceramics and textile, while the line pattern which likens many lines of writing results in a rich and layered product.
Ayala learned ceramics in Tel-Hai Arts Institute, Israel, mainly around the traditional technique and the use of the potter's wheel, while actually she found it difficult to settle for the traditional way and dealt with the constant search for additional techniques, different processing and unusual patterns. This way, in the academy and later on, Ayala struggled with the saying that ceramics deals with the practical design and extended to the study of the material and the creation.
For Ayala, the moment when she discovered the technique with which she is working today was like finding a treasure after several years of searching for a new way to work with the classical clay.
Ayala presents her works in various exhibitions, including the Biennale of Design and Art, Tel Aviv and the Art and Design Fair Fresh Paint.
