Meadow Grasses | By Joanna Terry
Porcelain paper clay on found wood
H. 32 x w. 13 x d. 10 cm
All these works were created outside in clay, the initial imprints were taken on location, the casts were then taken back to my studio where I created plaster batts from the incised clay.. These positive images of the meadows and barks are used to pour my porcelain paper clay on to, the plaster draws out the water allowing me to gently peel back to reveal the imprints. Using a mould to gently form together the delicate slithers of porcelain which reveal different elements of the original cast. Left unsupported during their high firing, they are free to warp and move, creating natural organic forms. With the addition of light the true native beauty of the Kent /Sussex landscape is illuminated in these vitrified, porcelain, shell like vessels.
