About Sarah Rooms Heaphy
Sarah Rooms Heaphy has always loved the inter-tidal coastline, an area of part land / part sea, ever changing tides that ebb & flow. Nature’s weather patterns revealing “treasure” on every walk. Whilst spending time in multiple locations around the UK, she has gathered a chaotic muddle of images, found forms, and distressed surfaces. Both ceramic & artwork draws on these memories, reimagining, layering, distressing to form new structures evoking coastal remnants lost at sea, weathered, fused & recreated. 
 
Increasingly influenced by historical land defences, seasalt corrosion, wild weather dereliction, extremities, from the wilds of Scotland to her nearest coastal trips of soft sands and chalky clayscapes on the Eastern coast, Sarah’s sculpture draws on the constant battle between nature and our manmade environment. There is reference to balance through interlocking structure, with texture fused by fragility, linking to inferred strength and power found through longevity and survival. 
 
Sarah Rooms Heaphy is an established ceramicist, working with both porcelain & stoneware clays to sculpt large scale abstract forms inspired by the coastal environment. Organic in form, they play with balance, texture, layering and interlocking surfaces. She splits her time between UK coastal visits gathering source material & creating with clay in her Cambridge based studio.
 
She regularly exhibits at ceramic events, including the Charlotte Fraser prize, Holt 2024, Association of Marine Artists, Mall Galleries 2023, Turner Contemporary Open 2022, Solo show at Anthony Fell Antiques 2025, Potfest by the Lake, 2022-25. 
 
Originally trained in Fashion & Textiles (BA1991), ceramics has been a second career since 2010 after a period of retraining through City & Guilds practise and self-taught development including 2024 DYCP Art Council grant, and 2025 AA2A resident artist at Cambridge School of Art, ARU.
