About the Artists
An original vase by ceramicist Lucia Fraser, made into a mould and action-cast by James Pegg
James Pegg is a noteable emerging artist based in Peckham who uses 'Action Casting' to create his dynamic ceramic forms. His work is in a constant state of creation, a direct embodiment of the balance between spontaneous gestures and controlled colour. In every part of the process lies an element of chance, from the pressure and speed at which the stained porcelain slip makes contact with the plaster mould to the interaction between the layers of different colours. After studying Textile Design at Glasgow School of Art and then completing his MA in Fashion at Central St Martins, James' ceramics practice was born out of the desire to create something more permanent than fabric yet embody the same expressions of colour and surface.
Lucia Fraser is a multidisciplinary artist based in north London. Originally a painter Lucia’s ceramic practice has evolved from an exploration into three dimensional form, line and surface. Finding inspiration from the natural world she uses traditional hand building techniques to create functional pieces that evoke a sense of organic movement. Lucia studied BA (Hons) Fine Art at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, specialising in painting and sculpture. She is currently a member of the Turning Earth In Production studio in the Lee Valley.
