About Jane Welch
Jane Welch completed the prestigious City Lit Diploma in Ceramics in 2017, under renowned artists such as Annie Turner, Sara Radstone and Robert Cooper.
 
Jane’s approach is one of a careful observer of the world we live in. She considers herself to be a magpie taking pictures wherever she goes and incorporating these colours, textures and concepts into her work. She takes everyday, mundane items that we take for granted and scrutinises them, elevating the overlooked and forcing us to regard the world in a different way.
 
Jane works quickly and spontaneously, and the mark of the maker is often visible, exhibiting an energetic relationship with the clay.  This then demands the viewer to feel and embrace the work so there is a direct link through the clay with the maker.
 
Jane’s background in teaching has given her a keen awareness of people and her work is often about the relationship between the pieces; the negative as well as positive space the piece inhabits.  As they are tactile pieces, they can be moved around in a way that gives the viewer enjoyment and this can be changed over time.
