About Adam Ross

'My work is derived from an amalgamation of my interests in sculpture and studio pottery. I make both functional and sculptural work which often overlap and are aesthetically related. Over the past 4 years, I have developed a process that satisfies my interests in throwing and hand-building. Every piece begins on the potter’s wheel, I throw thick cylinders which are then faceted. Before the pots are shaped, I make several horizontal slices through the cylinder. Then the delicate process of shaping using only one hand begins. As the pot is carefully shaped from the inside, the separate sections begin to twist independently causing the pot to become fragmented. I further try to enhance this fragmentation by alternating the direction in which the wheel is spinning, leaving each pot to look unique.'

Trained in his craft from a young age, Adam Ross graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2009 with a first class degree in ceramics. He now works from his studio in London.
