About Emily Marston
Emily Marston’s work explores our connection to nature, alongside our continuous flow of thought and emotion. Trust is part of an ongoing series of land, water and skyscapes that represent a snapshot of a moment in time, and feeling present within it.

Sitting somewhere between painting and collage, Emily works by intricately layering, cutting and reconfiguring coloured and patterned clay, a process that has developed through years of working and experimenting with agateware and nerikomi techniques, as well as her background in fine art painting.
Through detailed patterns and bold or translucent layers, areas are revealed or hidden, sometimes ripped at the edges and sometimes clear cut. In this way, Emily draws parallels between the changes in our inner landscape and the reassuring cycles of the natural world.

Emily studied Fine Art Painting at Winchester School of Art, followed by History of Art and Architecture in Oxford. She spent over ten years curating and promoting the work of artists and makers, both independently and at Arts at The Old Fire Station in Oxford.

Emily lives and works in East Oxford and is an Associate Artist at Magdalen Road Studios.
