About Ellen Cook
"I am interested in the whole process of ceramics; from developing a form, to creating glazes. I take time to notice the natural world, observing the smaller, quieter details that we sometimes miss. This approach lends itself to ceramics; with its slower pace, that gives time for contemplation and reflection. I enjoy using textures and layers to show the journey and development of each piece."
 
Ellen Cook is an emerging ceramic artist living in Bristol. She completed a Visual Arts Certificate at the
Nova Scotia College of Art and Design from 2022-2023 where she focussed on Ceramics and Abstract
Landscape painting. She uses her explorations in abstract painting to influence her ceramic practice
through glaze application, colour and tone. She has exhibited works in Canada and the UK and continues to sell her work at markets and galleries in Bristol and Somerset.

Ellen’s hand-built sculptural forms focus on organic movements, patterns and textures that echo
elements of the natural landscape. She uses vibrant colours and varied tones to create emotive and
imaginative pieces. She achieves subtle nuances and complex textured surfaces through sprayed glaze application, where the gradients and luminosity shift with each perspective. Her work is process driven and she builds a focussed narrative for each piece.
