About Sophie de Carvalho
"My practice centres on the small miracles in nature: dew forming on leaves, condensation beading on a cool surface, light glinting through a droplet. These moments feel devotional to me - tiny sanctuaries hidden in the everyday."
"Through ceramics, glass, and material experimentation, I translate these experiences into tactile objects that invite touch and curiosity. I want people to explore my surfaces slowly, placing their fingers into dimples, running their hands along glossy membranes, noticing how light shifts across a form."
"I think of my sculptures as sensory refuges: gentle, grounding objects that offer a moment of peace within a busy or overstimulating world. They carry a softness, a quietness, a contemplative energy that I hope can provide comfort or centring."
Sophie de Carvalho is currently at the Royal College of Art working towards a MA in Ceramics & Glass (25/26).
