Thrown is proud to present our first exhibition in our new gallery at Lanteague Studios, Cornwall, 'Elemental'.
The exhibition brings together artists whose work captures the raw, untamed forces of material and nature.
"It wasn't until the artwork started arriving for this exhibition that I fully saw the hard rock, the swirling water and air and the mass of flowers, leaves and branches that make up this collection. For the very first exhibition in our new gallery space on the north Cornish coast, my surroundings must be influenced me more than I knew."
"Its the importance of our surroundings that's most marked in this exhibition. After 5 years working nomadically, we are now back to our roots with a permanent space where everyday we get to surround ourselves with our collection - immersing ourselves in details, materials and forms that uplift, intrigue and impress."
Within ‘Elemental’, these details are both bold and intricate. Many of these pieces fit comfortably in the palm of your hand yet carry a monumentality that comes from reflections of life and nature. From an artist’s time in the vast history of Jingdezhen porcelain, the sculptural stretch of a plant from root to flower or the rhythm of a kick-wheel reflecting steps through a landscape, these are fleeting moments deeply anchored in material.’
