Thrown is proud to present our curated collection 'Map-Making', bringing together 11 collections that capture place and time, at Collect at Somerset House.

Place by its very material is captured in the wild clay sculptures and vessels of Unurgent Argilla and Marek Pitera; by its natural features in the work of Zuleika Melluish, Tim Copsey and Vladimir Guculak; and by its stories and traditions in the sgraffito vessels of Clara Holt.

Ideas of mapping place alongside an artist’s own journey of inspiration and discoveries is at the forefront of the work of Bisila Noha while the ability of imprint to capture time, place and the mark of an artist themselves be found in the work of Ella Porter and Heather Gibson. Lastly, time is held in contrasting light and darkness in the works of Guy Van Leemput, a master in gas-fired porcelain, and the notable emerging wood carver Pontus Sandevärn.
