12th September - 11th October 26
Life can move quickly. Like clouds - always moving, sometimes hanging overhead, other times breezing past- we might pause to watch and find shapes, or simply let them pass us by.
The idea behind Shifting Skies grew from that same awe-inspiring act of looking up: noticing movement, taking in the world around us, and making space for bigger thoughts.
At the heart of the exhibition are five key practices, added to by select pieces from the galleries permanent collection:
Sam Andrew’s ceramics sit like visual music with compressed, layered Nerikomi patterns, while Carolyn Tripp’s porcelain vessels similarly spin us around, pulling us in and out with bold pattern, written fragments, and select motifs, marking the sky as a shared emotional space. Iona Singleton brings a deeply investigative approach to ceramic form, using clay to examine shifting societal beliefs and artistic legacies. Meanwhile, Helena Lacy uses her own experimental glaze-printing technique to explore material memory and transformation. Grounding these three-dimensional works, Coral Drummond’s textile-like en plein air paintings intuitively emote raw gestures of emotion and expression through repeated pattern work and colour theory.
Together, the collection puts considered thoughts into strong visual forms which we hope will make you pause.
